Knox Adult Choir

Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.

Choir members meet weekly to rehearse anthems for Sunday Worship Services. The choir also adds their four-part harmony as they lead the congregational singing of hymns and praise & worship songs. Our current membership averages 25 singers, and there’s always room for more!

Youth Choir

For those in-between ages from grade 7 through high school - when you’re a bit too old for the Children’s Choir and not quite ready to hang out with the adult choir - Knox also has a Youth Choir. This group provides an opportunity for singers to expand (or begin) their knowledge of reading music and part-singing.

Youth choir and children’s choir rehearsals do not run continually throughout the year, but will be announced and run in four-week segments leading up to when they sing for worship services or special events.

Praise Team

Rehearsals are Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Knox’s Praise Team is a group of instrumentalists and singers who lead the contemporary worship music during Sunday services. If you play an instrument, or enjoy singing contemporary Praise & Worship songs, please join us either regularly, or for a short-term commitment.

Occasionally the instrumentalists may have opportunities to provide accompaniment for the choir anthems, in which case rehearsals will run a little longer.

Children’s Choir

Knox Children’s Choir is for children in Grade 1- 6 to share their joy of singing and learn songs of worship and praise.

For more information on any aspect of music at Knox, please contact Agnes Henderson (Director of Music) by email at agnesmarie@wightman.ca.

Special Music Events

Each December Knox Choir hosts “The Music of Christmas”, a concert produced by Agnes Henderson, featuring Knox choirs, guest soloists and instrumentalists. This concert continues to be a highly popular event for both the audience and performers. Nancy Skinner is the guest conductor for the choir at this event.

From time to time Knox’s Music Director, Agnes Henderson, writes original music for the choir. Working with her sister Kim, they have written two Easter Musicals that the choir has performed for the community. Nancy Skinner steps in as conductor for these special occasions as well. Access the youtube link below for a video of the most-recent Easter Musical by Agnes and Kim, titled “Who Do You Say I Am?”

"Who Do You Say I Am?" is the second original Easter Musical written by Agnes-Marie Henderson (music and lyrics) and her sister Kim Henderson (script). The Easter story is told through the perspectives of people who encountered Jesus (i.e. Peter, Mary Magdalene and others) and follows them as they discover who Jesus is.

Celebrating 100 Years of Knox Choir
April 14th, 2019

The role of music during worship services at Knox Listowel actually dates back into the 1880’s; however, it was on February 12th, 1919 that Knox Choir was formally organized with 29 members. At this time the choir took on the role as we know it today with leading the hymns, singing anthems and presenting concerts.

On April 14th, 2019 we celebrated the past 100 years of Knox Choir with a special service featuring the choir singing several anthems that share a message sharing a message of joy, faith, hope and love as we continue to “sing a new song to the Lord”.

A timeline of the full music history at Knox has been compiled which gives a picture of how music has been a part of Knox through the years and is available to view or download. A photo directory of musical groups and happenings is available on the gallery page.
